It’s May! We have all been sitting in our homes (like, really sitting in our homes with nothing to do and nowhere to go) waiting for the buds to burst on the trees and shrubs all around us. I can’t be the only one who lets out a tiny “EEEE” of joy at every perennial popping through the soil to assure me they’ve survived winter and are interested in blooming for me again this year!
This time of year we are ambitious! We’ve spent the winter planning! All of the seeds we will plant, the beds we will expand and researching hydrangeas to decide which one will be the envy of the neighbourhood. We forget. We forget how quickly the weeds get out of control, how halfway through making a new bed line we are exhausted (or just so sick of pulling up sod) and how expensive gardening seems to be now.
So many of our clients tell us about the neighbour on their street who has beautiful flowers all summer long or how they wish they could grow a veggie garden like their grandfather. Seeing these fabulous properties and remembering these parts of our childhood can be so discouraging. Gardening tasks can be overwhelming, it’s that chore that you need to stay on top of or it will get out of control… but that’s not how it used to be! This is the secret your grandfather knew and unless your neighbour has a hired gardener, it’s something they know too… though, they may not even know they know it!
Growing is undoubtedly one big science experiment, it’s trial and error plain and simple. No one is born with a green thumb, just a willingness to try. If you talk to that neighbour they’ll likely have stories about how many times they tried planting rhubarb before they finally figured out how to keep it alive or your grandfather may tell you about how horrible his veggies did the first 5 years he started growing in that spot. Yes, skill is part of gardening but that skill is something you develop through TRYING.
We are here for that support, the push to keep trying. We’ve done the trial and error for you - learn from our mistakes (if you’ve been reading our blog you’ll know, we don’t hide our mistakes, we learn from them), let us teach you how to be successful and grow those veggies like your grandfather or become the beautiful property your neighbours aspire to be. We’re not here to sugar coat things or offer quick fixes - it’s the quick fixes and instant gratifications that got us into this mess of frustration and poor soil. Follow us and it will be hard work at first, but you’ll be setting yourself up for simple and easy success for years to come!
Two rural Moms on a soil saving mission
s Plants, like us, require nutrients to thrive. When there is access to the nutrients needed, plants are hardier, deter pests and have higher harvest nutritional value. Unfortunately, these nutrients are sometimes locked within soil particles and plants can't absorb them.
Microbes, like beneficial fungi and bacteria, release these nutrients into a form that plants can readily uptake. When there is a healthy EcoSystem below the soil, fewer additives are required - saving you time and money!
Through harvesting and current gardening methods, these microscopic communities can become stressed missing important parts of their food-chain. This is why incorporating Our Eco System into your gardening program can re-boot your garden and increase your food value!
This company was founded because environmentally friendly products either didn't work, cost too much or were too labor intensive. We develop our products with the client in mind; saving time and money plus, growing while improving the earth.
